Ademola Lookman scored his first goal of the season as Atletico Madrid secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Sevilla in their La Liga clash at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium on Saturday.
Playing in an unfamiliar false nine role, the Super Eagles winger had failed to find the net in Atletico’s opening two league matches. However, he returned to his preferred left-wing position against Sevilla and showed his quality as Diego Simeone’s side maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign.
The visitors made a flying start to the game, racing into a three-goal lead within 33 minutes to stun Sevilla. Álex Baena opened the scoring just four minutes into the match before Lookman doubled Atletico’s advantage in the 26th minute, firing a near-post finish past Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Just seven minutes later, Baena completed his brace with a powerful effort from outside the box to make it 3-0. The clinical first-half display handed Simeone’s side a comfortable advantage heading into the half-time break.

Six minutes after the restart, Lookman found the back of the net again, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Sevilla then pulled one back in the 66th minute through Miguel Sierra, reducing the deficit to 3-1.
Despite conceding, Atletico remained solid defensively and produced a composed display to see out the victory. The result secured their second La Liga win of the season and moved them to the top of the table with seven points.
Lookman and Atletico Madrid will return to action with another away fixture against Athletic Club, where they will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the new campaign.
