Iheanacho’s 12-match scoring run ends as Bursaspor cruise to victory

Kelechi Iheanacho’s remarkable scoring streak ended on Saturday, but Bursaspor kept their promotion push moving with a commanding 3–0 home victory over Bandırmaspor in Turkey’s First League.

The Super Eagles forward started and completed the match after recovering from the knock he sustained against Ankara Keçiörengücü last weekend. However, he could not extend a sequence of goals in 12 consecutive league appearances.

Lewis Baker’s double and an early strike from Halil Akbunar settled the contest inside 23 minutes at the Atatürk Spor Kompleksi Matlı Stadyumu.

The victory lifted Bursaspor to 31 points and kept them top of the table after their 13th league fixture.

Akbunar opened the scoring in the seventh minute, reacting to a loose ball following a corner and finishing firmly to give the hosts an early advantage.

Baker doubled the lead five minutes later. Bursaspor’s pressure forced a mistake, and the midfielder capitalised with a long-range finish into an unguarded goal.

He struck again in the 23rd minute, this time sending a powerful effort in off the post from outside the penalty area. That gave the home side a three-goal cushion before the interval.

Iheanacho and Akbunar continued to threaten after the restart, while Amine Boutrah fired over as Bursaspor searched for a fourth.

Bandırmaspor had the ball in the net in the second half, but an offside decision denied them a consolation goal.

Fellow Nigerian Tosin Kehinde started for the visitors. The midfielder received a second-minute yellow card before being replaced by Dominique Badji on the hour.

Despite drawing a blank, Iheanacho remains on 16 league goals and three assists this season. His previous appearance brought a goal in the 4–2 victory at Keçiörengücü, extending the scoring sequence that finally stopped against Bandırmaspor.

Bursaspor have now won four successive league matches, following victories over Muğlaspor, Pendikspor and Keçiörengücü. Saturday’s clean sheet also gave them a third shutout during that run.

Iheanacho’s next opportunity to return to the scoresheet comes away to Antalyaspor on November 6, with Bursaspor’s official fixture list confirming the trip to Corendon Airlines Park.
