MFM Queens beat Liberia’s Flames 77–46 on Thursday in the Women’s Basketball League Africa Zone 3 qualifiers, holding the hosts below 20 points in the first half at the Samuel Kayan Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia.

The Nigerian champions led 20–11 after the first quarter and added another 16 points in the second while conceding eight. That gave MFM a 36–19 lead at half-time. They widened the gap again in the third quarter, outscoring Flames 16–7 to take a 52–26 advantage into the final ten minutes.

Flames had their most productive period in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points after managing just seven in the third. MFM still won the period 25–20. Olubode scored two baskets in quick succession to take the Queens from 56 to 60 points, while Okoh supplied a three-pointer that made it 71–35 with 2:13 remaining. Olugbagho scored the final basket with three seconds left.

MFM came to Monrovia as Nigeria’s reigning league champions after beating First Bank 66–64 in overtime in the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League final on October 3 in Lagos. That victory was their third domestic title in four seasons, following wins in 2023 and 2024.

Both Nigerian finalists are in the six-team qualifying field in Liberia. First Bank lost 55–54 to Côte d’Ivoire’s Friends Basketball Association earlier on Thursday. The field also includes Benin’s Énergie Basketball Club and Liberia’s D-Rockas, who meet MFM next.

The Queens are scheduled to face D-Rockas at 8 p.m. WAT on Friday, followed by Énergie on Saturday and Friends Basketball Association on Sunday. The top two teams in Monrovia advance to the continental finals, scheduled for December 11–20 in Cairo.
