Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is set to undergo knee surgery on Saturday and is expected to miss Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header against Tanzania on November 13 and 17.
According to Galatasaray, Osimhen sustained the injury during their midweek UEFA Champions League victory over Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart on Tuesday. The Nigerian international featured for the entire duration of the encounter, which Galatasaray won 2-0.
The 27-year-old subsequently underwent an MRI scan, which confirmed the injury. In a statement released on Friday, the Turkish giants announced that the striker would undergo surgery on Saturday and would consequently miss their league clash against Amed SK.

The club’s statement read: “In the UEFA Champions League match we played against VfB Stuttgart, our player Victor Osimhen sustained a strain in his left knee, and MRI examinations detected a loose body.
“An arthroscopic knee surgery will be performed tomorrow at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital by our club doctor Yener İnce. For this reason, our player has been removed from the squad for tomorrow’s match against Amed S. F.”
Osimhen recently returned from a groin strain that kept him out of action for three games and also missed the Super Eagles’ 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Guinea -Bissau and Madagascar.
