Achiuwa’s 24 points not enough as Kings suffer fifth straight loss to Pelicans

Despite an impressive 24-point performance from D’Tigers forward Precious Achiuwa, the Sacramento Kings remain winless in the 2026/27 NBA season after suffering a 132-120 defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center.

Having lost their opening four games of the campaign, the Kings travelled to New Orleans in search of their first victory of the season. However, an in-form Pelicans side proved too strong for the visitors.

Sacramento made a bright start, taking the first quarter 30-24, but their hopes of securing a much-needed victory were dented by a disappointing second and third-quarter showing. The Kings were outscored 39-31 in the second quarter before surrendering another 12 points in the third, which the Pelicans won 39-27.

Although Sacramento responded to take the fourth quarter 32-30, it was not enough to overturn the deficit as New Orleans secured a 12-point victory.

Rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr. led the Kings with a game-high 34 points, 14 assists and six rebounds in 41 minutes, recording the first double-double of his NBA career.

Achiuwa narrowly missed out on a double-double after finishing with 24 points, nine rebounds and a team-high four steals in 41 minutes on the court. De’Andre Hunter also contributed 24 points, while Zach LaVine added 21. Centre Domantas Sabonis recorded a game-high 15 rebounds alongside nine points and seven assists.

For the Pelicans, Jeremiah Fears recorded a double-double with 22 points and a team-high 13 assists. Zion Williamson also scored 22 points, while Trey Murphy III contributed 19. Herbert Jones added 16 points, Karlo Matković finished with 12, while Bennedict Mathurin and Saddiq Bey chipped in with 10 points apiece.

The Kings will now look to end their five-game losing streak when they visit the FedExForum on November 1 to face the Memphis Grizzlies.
