Nigerian forward Anthony Nwakaeme is anticipated to make his return to action for Trabzonspor in January, following his complete recovery from a tendon rupture.
The injury, sustained in the opening match of the 2025/26 Turkish Süper Lig season, has sidelined the one-cap Super Eagles player for the first half of the campaign.
Due to the timing of the injury, at the very start of the season, when registration could still be amended, Nwakaeme was deregistered from the official squad list. This meant he could not feature until he was officially added back during the next registration window.
The Nigerian, a cult hero at the club, is now expected to be re-registered for the second half of the season, pending the necessary quota adjustments and licensing process.

Reports from Turkey suggest that manager Fatih Tekke plans to build his team around the returning forward’s experience as Trabzonspor aims to challenge title-holders and current leaders, Galatasaray, for the title.
Tekke, who has often praised Nwakaeme’s football intelligence, experience, and leadership, sees his return as a significant lift to their title aspirations.
Nwakaeme is reportedly training well, with the coaching staff pleased with his fitness level. The Nigerian star will be keen to remain injury-free as he targets a strong second half of the season.
He was an instrumental figure in the club’s historic 2021/22 title victory, helping Trabzonspor end a 38-year drought for a domestic league trophy.
