Nigeria’s Edo Queens have won the 2026 WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament. They defeated Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the final.
The Nigerian champions reached the final after a strong response to their group-stage defeat. They had thrashed USFA 5-1 in the semi-final. Ampem Darkoa, meanwhile, entered the final after four straight wins.
Edo Queens faced Ampem Darkoa at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou on Saturday, September 5.
The Ghanaian champions made a quick start. Beline Nyarko opened the scoring after just two minutes.
Edo Queens responded almost immediately. Doosuur Anastasia Atume restored parity two minutes later.
The two sides continued to trade attacking moments. Ampem Darkoa eventually regained the lead with 16 minutes left.
Nyarko completed her brace to put the Ghanaian side ahead again. Edo Queens refused to give up. Oluebube Umejiaku struck deep into stoppage time.
Her goal forced the final into a penalty shootout.The Nigerian side proved more clinical from the spot.
Edo Queens converted all four of their penalties. Ampem Darkoa scored only one of their three attempts.

The result also avenged Edo Queens’ earlier group-stage defeat. Ampem Darkoa had beaten the Nigerian champions 2-1 during the tournament.
Edo Queens then responded with a 5-1 semi-final win over USFA. Their strong finish ultimately secured the regional crown.
The Nigerian champions also collected two individual honours.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi won the Player of the Tournament award. Atume finished as the competition’s top scorer.
Atume also played a major role in the final. She cancelled out Nyarko’s early opener before Edo Queens completed their late comeback.
The victory gives Edo Queens a place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League. They will now represent the WAFU B region on the continental stage.
The triumph adds another major achievement to the rise of the Benin City-based club.
The result ends a memorable tournament for Edo Queens. It also leaves Ampem Darkoa to reflect on a campaign that saw them come within one shootout of the title.
