…D’Tigress lost all three group games
Nigeria’s D’Tigress ended their disappointing 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign with a heavy 111-56 defeat to France at the Berlin Arena on Monday afternoon.
After losing their opening games against South Korea and Hungary, D’Tigress needed a victory over tournament favourites France to keep alive their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages.
However, they were overwhelmed by a dominant French side that controlled the game from the start and scored at least 30 points in each of the first three quarters. France outscored the African champions 31-13 in the first quarter, 34-13 in the second and 30-13 in the third.
D’Tigress managed to win the fourth quarter 17-16, but the damage had already been done as France secured a commanding 55-point victory.

Shooting guard Grace Efosa-Aguebor led Nigeria’s scoring with 15 points, while Elizabeth Balogun contributed 11. It was otherwise a quiet outing for some of D’Tigress’ key players, including Amy Okonkwo, Ezinne Kalu, Murjanatu Musa and Promise Amukamara.
France had five players finish in double figures, with Gabby Williams leading the way with 25 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Janelle Salaun added 19 points, Marine Johannes scored 17, Migna Toure contributed 16, while Pauline Astier finished with 12 points.
France topped the group with a perfect three wins from three games, while Hungary finished second with two victories. South Korea also advanced to the quarter-final qualifiers following their victory over Nigeria.
Nigeria have now crashed out of the competition, while their African counterparts Mali still have a chance of reaching the knockout stages at the time of filing this report.
