Trabzonspor interim coach Hüseyin Çimşir has eased concerns over Paul Onuachu’s injury after the Nigerian striker left their 5-0 win over Gençlerbirliği on Sunday. Onuachu had to come off shortly before half-time after suffering an injury during a physical challenge.
The 32-year-old had just returned to scoring form with a brace. His two goals helped the club return to winning ways after two games without a victory.
Onuachu wasted little time in ending his scoring drought against Gençlerbirliği. The former Genk striker opened the scoring inside the first five minutes. Mohamed Salah then converted a penalty to give Trabzonspor a two-goal advantage.
Onuachu struck again in the 22nd minute to complete his brace. Ernest Muci and Franculino Dju later added more goals as Trabzonspor secured an emphatic 5-0 victory. The result gave the Turkish side an important boost after their recent struggles.

However, Onuachu could not finish the game. He suffered the injury after a physical challenge in the 44th minute. The striker left the pitch immediately, with Franculino Dju coming on as his replacement.
The incident created concern around Onuachu’s condition, especially after his impressive return to the scoresheet. However, Çimşir moved to calm those fears after the match. The Trabzonspor interim coach indicated that the injury does not appear to be serious.
“I don’t think it’s anything serious. There’s no problem.” Cimsir said post-match.
The statement will come as welcome news for Trabzonspor. The club will now monitor Onuachu’s condition as he works towards a return. His goals could prove important during the club’s push to recover from a slow start.
Onuachu’s recovery will also interest Nigeria ahead of their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau later this month.
His availability would give Nigeria another experienced option in attack. For now, however, Trabzonspor will focus on his recovery and further assessment.
