Nigerian forward Anthony Nwakaeme will be sidelined for at least two months after sustaining a hamstring injury in Trabzonspor’s season-opening 1-0 win over newly promoted Kocaelispor on Monday night, Bold Sports reports.

The 36-year-old picked up the injury in the 84th minute and was replaced by Arif Bosluk. His absence will be a major blow for Trabzonspor, who view him as an integral part of their ambitions this season despite his age.

Nwakaeme started the match and was on course to complete the full 90 minutes before the injury struck. Medical examinations in Turkey confirmed a tear, ruling him out for roughly two months, per reports in Turkey.

He will be eager to return stronger and on time to help Trabzonspor push for a return to the summit of Turkish football. He was instrumental in the club’s 2021/22 Turkish Super Lig triumph, their first league title in nearly four decades.

Paul Onuachu netted the only goal of the encounter, making a bright start to life in Turkey following his move from Southampton.
