The President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) and Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has expressed profound condolences to Anthony Joshua and the families of the two people who lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving the boxing star on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred on Monday along the busy highway, when Joshua was involved in a collision that reportedly led to the death of two individuals. The former world heavyweight champion survived the crash and is currently receiving medical attention.
Reacting to the incident, Edun issued a statement on behalf of the Nigerian boxing community, describing the loss of life as heartbreaking and extending prayers to all those affected.
“On behalf of the entire Nigerian Boxing family, I express my deepest condolences to our national treasure Anthony Joshua and the families of the two individuals who passed away,” Edun said.
“The loss of life is always deeply distressing, and our thoughts and prayers are with you, Anthony, and the affected families at this difficult time.”
The NBF president also prayed for Joshua’s recovery while paying tribute to the victims of the crash.
“As a boxing community, we pray for your speedy recovery and that the souls of the dearly departed rest in peace.”
Joshua, a two-time world heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medallist, is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential sporting figures. Despite competing internationally for Great Britain, his roots and continued engagement with Nigerian boxing have earned him recognition as a national icon within the sport.
