Nigeria’s D’Tigress will be hoping to begin their 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup campaign on a positive note when they take on South Korea at the Uber Arena at 1:30 p.m. Nigerian time.
D’Tigress head into the game as favourites, not only on the basis of their higher world ranking – Nigeria are ranked 8th, while South Korea are 15th – but also with a point to prove following their most recent meeting.
The two teams last met earlier this year at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament, where South Korea claimed a convincing 77-60 victory in a dominant display. D’Tigress will be hoping to avenge that defeat when both sides meet on the biggest stage in Berlin.
Before that encounter, the teams had last faced each other in 2016 at the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament, with Nigeria edging the Asians 70-69 in a pulsating contest.

Ezinne Kalu and Promise Amukamara are the only surviving members of that squad. Kalu contributed 11 points, two assists and two steals in the victory, while Amukamara recorded four points, two rebounds and two assists.
Nigeria’s other victory over South Korea came in 2004 at the Olympic Games in Athens, where D’Tigress secured a 68-64 win.
After a 37-day training camp spanning the United States, China and Spain, where they played a series of high-level friendly matches, D’Tigress will be looking to translate their preparations into a strong performance as they begin their campaign in a group that also features France and Hungary.
