Nigeria’s Falconets have secured their spot at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland despite a 2-1 loss to Malawi in the second leg of their final qualifying tie on Saturday.
The Falconets had claimed a 2-0 win in the first leg at Ikenne, giving them a 3-2 aggregate victory. It means they continue their proud tradition of qualifying for every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Malawi came into the second leg at the Bingu National Stadium determined to turn the tie around. They made a brilliant start to the game as Faith Chimzimu scored just nine minutes in, giving them a 1-0 lead.

The hosts extended their lead in the second half to level the aggregate scoreline. Faith Chimzimu found the net once again, netting a brace to make it 2-0, and 2-2 on aggregate.
Just when it seemed like Malawi could complete a historic comeback, the Falconets shattered their hopes. In the 62nd minute, Oscar Precious scored for Nigeria, making it 2-1 and 3-2 on aggregate.
The hosts continued to push to try and equalise once again, but the Falconets held on to claim victory, securing their spot at the World Cup for the 12th time.

The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held in Poland from 5-27 September. The Falconets who have finished as runners-up twice, will now be aiming to lift the title for the first time.
