Brighton & Hove Albion will assess Femi Azeez in training before deciding whether the Nigerian forward can face Manchester United in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup third-round tie.
Head coach Fabian Hurzeler confirmed that Azeez remains in contention for the fixture. However, the 25-year-old must first prove his fitness during the final training session.
Azeez arrives at Brighton after a productive 2025/26 campaign with Millwall. He finished that season with 11 goals and seven assists, while his performances earned him a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.
His form made him one of Millwall’s key attacking players. He also attracted strong interest before completing his move to Brighton during the summer transfer window.
The Nigerian has yet to make his debut for the Seagulls. His current fitness issue has delayed his first appearance for the Premier League club.
Azeez suffered an injury during Millwall’s opening-day Championship victory over Bristol City.

He returned to training before Brighton’s recent meeting with Coventry City. However, the winger did not make the matchday squad as the club continued to manage his recovery.
Hurzeler has now offered a clearer picture of Azeez’s situation ahead of the Manchester United clash.
“Azeez (undisclosed) needs to be assessed in training ahead of Wednesday’s EFL Cup game against Manchester United”, Hurzeler said prematch.
Brighton head into the Carabao Cup tie after a strong 5-0 win over Coventry City. The Seagulls had previously drawn 1-1 with Leeds United.
Manchester United will provide a tougher test as both sides meet again after Brighton’s 2-1 FA Cup victory over the Red Devils last season.
For Brighton, Azeez’s availability could add another attacking option. The Nigerian will hope the final assessment clears him to make his long-awaited debut.
His return would also give him the chance to begin a new chapter at Brighton after establishing himself as one of the Championship’s standout attackers last season.
