Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi has added a new academic qualification to his football career after completing a postgraduate programme at the PFA Business School, Bold Sports reports.

The Nigerian striker graduated with Merit in the Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship. He announced the achievement on Instagram on Tuesday.

Awoniyi heads into the latest development after a difficult outing for Coventry City. He started against Brighton & Hove Albion on September 13 but received a red card in the 53rd minute. Coventry eventually lost 5-0 at home.

The 29-year-old described the qualification as an important moment away from football.

“Another proud moment for me off the pitch.

“Graduating from the PFA Business School with a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship with Merit.

“I have always believed that being a footballer shouldn’t stop you from being a student of the game and education has become an important part of that journey for me,” he said.

The programme focuses on the modern sporting director’s role. It covers areas linked to football leadership, sporting departments and long-term club development.

Awoniyi also thanked the PFA Business School for helping him complete the programme.

He acknowledged his lecturers and fellow students as well. The striker also appreciated his family and friends for their support throughout his studies.

“Still playing. Still learning. The journey continues,” the Coventry forward added.

From Nigeria to the Premier League

Awoniyi began his professional career with Imperial Academy in Nigeria. Liverpool signed him in 2015 before a series of European moves shaped his career.

The striker later played for clubs including Union Berlin and Nottingham Forest. He has also represented Nigeria at senior international level.

He joined Coventry City from Nottingham Forest in August 2026. The move marked another chapter in his English football career.

His latest academic achievement now adds another dimension to his development away from matchdays.

Awoniyi’s qualification also reflects his interest in football beyond playing. The PFA Business School programme prepares participants for the complex demands of modern sporting leadership.

For the Nigerian forward, the message remains clear. His playing career continues, but so does his education.
