Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has hinted that he will not be part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco later this month, Bold Sports reports.
The Nigerian camp is expected to come alive next week as preparations intensify for the tournament, with the team aiming to lift the AFCON trophy for the first time in over a decade. Head coach Eric Chelle has until December 11 to submit his final 23-man squad to CAF.
Boniface has fallen down the national team pecking order in recent months, following a dip in form that has seen him score just once in 13 appearances for the Super Eagles – a goal recorded in the 2-2 friendly draw against Saudi Arabia in 2023.

He last featured for Nigeria in a 1-1 friendly draw against Russia in June 2025 and has not received a call-up since, missing three AFCON qualifiers and six World Cup qualifying matches.
His struggles have continued at club level. Since joining Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, Boniface has gone 11 matches without a goal.
Despite being named in Eric Chelle’s 54-man provisional squad for AFCON 2025, the forward has now suggested he will not make the final 23-man list.

In a social media video, Boniface is heard encouraging his Bremen teammate Felix Agu and wishing him well ahead of the competition.
“Fine boy, getting ready for AFCON,” Boniface says to Agu. “You go next week? Good luck, I wish you all the best, my guy.”
Boniface, despite his undeniable talent, has endured an unfortunate run with the Super Eagles in recent years.
