‎‎‎Wolverhampton Wanderers have strongly condemned racist abuse aimed at Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare following Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.‎‎

Arokodare came under fire on social media after missing a penalty during the tightly contested encounter, with Palace going on to secure all three points. In the aftermath of the fixture, Wolves released a statement expressing disgust at numerous instances of racist abuse, from multiple perpetrators directed at the striker online.

‎‎“There is no place for racism – in football, online, or anywhere in society,” the club said. “We condemn this abhorrent and unlawful behaviour in the strongest possible terms.”‎‎

Some of the messages shared online included deeply offensive racial slurs, with multiple posts referring to the Nigerian international as a “monkey” following his penalty miss. The club described the abuse as unacceptable and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on discrimination.

‎‎Wolves confirmed that Arokodare has their “full and unwavering support,” adding that no player should be subjected to hatred simply for doing his job.‎‎

“We stand firmly alongside him, and alongside all footballers who are forced to endure this abuse from anonymous accounts acting with apparent impunity,” the statement added.‎‎

The Midlands club have reported the offending posts to the relevant social media platforms and will work with the Premier League and appropriate authorities to help identify those responsible.

Wolves also pledged to pursue appropriate action against perpetrators and reiterated their commitment to tackling all forms of discrimination.

‎‎Racial abuse of players online has remained a persistent issue in English football, prompting repeated calls for stronger regulation and accountability.‎‎

Saturday’s incident once again highlights the darker side of the modern game, as clubs and governing bodies continue efforts to combat racism both inside stadiums and across digital platforms.
