Edo Queens opened their WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifying campaign in style. The Nigerian champions defeated AS Garde Nationale 7-0 in Group B. The match took place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Chioma Moses produced the standout performance on the opening day. She scored three times against AS Garde Nationale. Her first goal arrived in the fifth minute. She later converted a penalty before completing her hat-trick in the 76th minute.
The forward’s three goals came during a dominant team display. Edo Queens controlled the contest and repeatedly exposed the Nigerien side’s defence. Moses’ finishing also gave the Nigerian champions a major attacking threat.
Edo Queens took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Moses struck again during first-half stoppage time. She calmly converted from the penalty spot to extend the advantage.
The Nigerian side then increased the pressure after the break. Atume Doosuur scored two minutes into the second half. She added another goal in the 56th minute to complete her brace.
Aminat Folorunsho joined the scoring six minutes later. Her goal made it 5-0 and further underlined Edo Queens’ control.
Moses then completed her hat-trick. Her third goal arrived in the 76th minute. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the scoring in stoppage time.
The emphatic result also earned Moses the Woman of the Match award. Her contribution helped Edo Queens begin their campaign with maximum confidence.
The victory also adds to Edo Queens’ strong record in WAFU-B competition. They won the zonal qualifiers in 2024 and secured a place at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Edo Queens still have Group B matches against ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire. They will also face Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa.
Their 7-0 victory gives them an ideal start. It also sends an early warning to their WAFU-B rivals.
With Chioma Moses leading the attack, Edo Queens have made their ambitions clear. The Nigerian champions will now look to maintain that momentum in their remaining group matches.
