German Bundesliga side Hamburger have completed Terem Moffi’s signing from OGC Nice, with the Super Eagles forward becoming the club’s seventh acquisition of the summer transfer window.
Hamburger announced the transfer in a statement released on their official website on Monday, confirming that Moffi completed his medical examinations over the weekend before putting pen to paper on a three-year contract until 2029. The 27-year-old will wear the club’s number 9 shirt during the 2026/27 season.
The Bundesliga club are expecting Moffi’s experience and physical presence to strengthen their attacking options as they prepare for the new campaign. Speaking about the signing, board member for sport Kathleen Krüger highlighted the Nigerian’s versatility and experience at the highest level.
“Terem is an excellent fit for our approach. His signing gives us even more depth and versatility in the center forward position, thereby increasing our overall quality.”

Krüger also pointed to Moffi’s international and club experience as an important quality that could benefit Hamburger’s younger players.
“His career path so far brings extensive experience at a high international level, which he can also pass on to our young talents. We are delighted to have Terem at HSV and extend a warm welcome to him.”
Sporting director Claus Costa also backed the forward to make a significant impact, particularly with his ability to hold up play, run in behind defences and provide a strong presence inside the box.
“Terem is a striker who is difficult to contain due to his physicality, determination, and playing style. He is capable of making runs in behind the defense, has a tremendous presence in the penalty area, and possesses the necessary quality with his back to goal.”
Costa added that the club’s immediate priority will be helping Moffi settle into the squad quickly as Hamburger look to begin the Bundesliga season strongly.
“We are convinced that Terem will add extra firepower to our game and thus further enhance the versatility of our squad. Now, the task is to integrate him quickly so that we can start the new Bundesliga season as a team with plenty of energy and confidence.”
Moffi revealed that Hamburger’s coach Merlin Polzin played an important role in convincing him to make the move, while the club’s history and passionate supporters also influenced his decision.
“The coach was really convincing in our discussions. The location, with its fantastic fans, and the club’s overall direction also played a role in my decision.”
The Nigerian striker said his father’s reaction further underlined the significance of joining a club with Hamburger’s reputation.
“Even though HSV played in the second division for a few years, the club is still a big name, all over the world. When I told my father about the interest, he immediately knew which club I meant and was thrilled. For me, it was positively crazy. I’m all the happier now to be a part of the club’s history.”
Moffi also outlined what Hamburger can expect from him on the pitch, stressing that while scoring goals remains a priority, he is equally committed to contributing to the team’s overall performance.
“As a striker, I naturally love scoring goals, but I also love working for the team and keeping the whole group together. I’m the new guy in the team right now, which is always a bit strange at first, but I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting started together soon.”
Moffi will link up with fellow Nigerian Jordan Torunarigha at Hamburger. The defender joined the club from Gent in 2025 and made 27 appearances during his debut campaign.
Moffi arrives in Germany with considerable European experience, having won the Portuguese league title on loan with Porto last season. The forward has also played for OGC Nice, Lorient, Kortrijk, Riteriai and Kauno Zalgiris.
At international level, Moffi has been a member of the Super Eagles since making his debut in 2021. He has earned 23 caps for Nigeria, scoring six goals and providing two assists.
