Samuel Chukwueze has revealed that his Player of the Match performance against Torino has given him a major confidence boost after helping AC Milan begin their 2026/27 Serie A campaign with a 2-1 victory.

The Nigerian winger produced an impressive display in Milan’s opening league fixture on Sunday, providing an assist for Adrien Rabiot’s goal as the Rossoneri secured all three points.

Chukwueze, who was deployed in the right wing-back position, was named the game’s MVP after creating four chances, the most of any player, while recording nine touches in the opposition box. He also completed four passes into the final third, made six recoveries and won three ground duels.

Speaking to DAZN after the match, the 27-year-old expressed his delight at making such a positive start to the new campaign.

“I’m happy to be back like this; it gives me confidence. I wanted to start the season this way, so I’m happy. But it’s already in the past now we’re thinking about the next game,” Chukwueze said.

The Super Eagles winger was asked whether he was prepared to continue operating up and down the wing throughout the season, to which he responded confidently: “I’m ready. It’s my job, and I’ll give everything.”

Chukwueze also spoke to Sky Sport about the importance of starting the campaign with a victory, while acknowledging the role of new head coach Ruben Amorim in improving his confidence.

“It was important to win our opening game. Now we’ll prepare for the next match. When a coach believes in you, it’s important. My confidence is growing, and I just have to keep going like this,” he said.

The performance represents a continuation of Chukwueze’s impressive pre-season form. He had already caught the eye in Milan’s friendly against Manchester United, scoring once and providing two assists before carrying that momentum into competitive action.

In his post-match press conference, Amorim highlighted the qualities Chukwueze brings to his tactical setup. The Portuguese coach also spoke about Diego Moreira, who joined Milan recently from Strasbourg for a reported €50 million fixed fee, with a further €16 million in add-ons.

“Moreira and Chukwueze have important qualities that are difficult to find in a single player. When you play with a wide player who has certain characteristics, the player on the opposite side must offer something different,” Amorim said.

Moreira, 22, arrives at Milan after an impressive 2025/26 campaign with Strasbourg, recording five goals and eight assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. He subsequently represented Belgium at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With both Moreira and Chukwueze capable of contributing from wide areas, Amorim appears to have two versatile options as he looks to establish his preferred system at Milan.

For Chukwueze, the immediate focus is now on maintaining his strong start when Milan host Venezia on Friday, August 28.
