Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has returned to Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Bendel Insurance after signing a one-year contract with the Benin-based club ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Bendel Insurance confirmed the return of the 26-year-old shot-stopper in a statement on their official X (formerly known as Twitter) page on Monday, welcoming Obasogie back to the club where his professional career began.
“Back where it all began. Former captain and Super Eagles goalkeeper Amasogie Obasogie returns and signs a one-year contract. Welcome home, Amas. The story continues,” the club wrote.
Obasogie started his professional career with Bendel Insurance before moving to Ethiopian Premier League side Fasil Kenema in 2024, where he enjoyed a short but impressive spell. The goalkeeper subsequently joined Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars in January 2025.

However, his time in Tanzania was briefly disrupted in February 2026 when Singida Black Stars suspended him for three months over alleged match-fixing.
Obasogie denied the allegations, and the club reversed the suspension just a week later following an internal investigation that cleared the goalkeeper of any wrongdoing. He was subsequently reinstated into the team.
Reflecting on his return to Bendel Insurance, Obasogie expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and revealed his determination to contribute to the club with the experience he has gained in recent years.
“Back to where part of my journey began. Sometime, life takes you away so you can grow, learn, and become stronger. Today, I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to my former team, not just as a player, but with more experience, hunger, and determination,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I’m ready to give my all for the badge, the team, and the supporters. Back home, back to work. Let the journey continue.”
Obasogie also bid an emotional farewell to Singida Black Stars, thanking everyone at the club for their support during his time in Tanzania.
“It has been an honour to wear this badge and represent this great team. The memories, challenges, victories, and friendships I gained here will always remain special to me,” he added.
“Though my journey with the club is coming to an end, Singida Black Stars will always have a special place in my heart. I wish the club nothing but success and greater achievements in the future. Thank you Singida Black Stars. Once a star, always a star.”
Obasogie has been called up multiple times to the Nigerian national team in recent years, and he was part of the Super Eagles squad that finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
His return to Bendel Insurance now gives the goalkeeper an opportunity to continue his development at the club where his professional journey began, as the Benin-based side prepare for the new NPFL campaign.
