It was a match of fine margins at Selhurst Park as Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, with Tolu Arokodare’s missed first-half penalty looming large over proceedings.
In a contest short on clear-cut chances but high on tension, Wolves were handed a golden opportunity to seize control in the 43rd minute.
Arokodare stepped forward confidently after the visitors were awarded a penalty, yet his effort was denied by Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who guessed correctly and produced a vital save to keep the score level.

Wolves’ task grew even more complicated after the interval when they were reduced to ten men, forcing them into a disciplined defensive display as Palace increased the pressure in search of a breakthrough. Despite their numerical disadvantage, the visitors remained organised and threatened sporadically on the counter-attack.
However, just as it appeared the match was drifting towards a stalemate, Palace found their decisive moment. In the 90th minute, substitute Evann Guessand capitalised on a loose ball inside the area, showing composure to fire beyond the Wolves goalkeeper and send the home supporters into celebration.

For Wolves, the overriding narrative will centre on the missed opportunity from the spot. Had Arokodare converted, the complexion of the match may have shifted entirely, particularly given Palace’s late surge.
Instead, it was the home side who claimed all three points – a result that strengthens Palace’s position in the table and leaves Wolves to reflect on what might have been. In a tightly contested Premier League encounter, the difference ultimately came down to one save and one decisive late finish.
