Super Eagles striker Akor Adams scored his first Serie A goal for Venezia on Friday, but his effort was not enough as the club suffered a 4-2 defeat to Fiorentina at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium.
Adams, who had scored twice in the Coppa Italia this season, opened his Serie A account in the 22nd minute to give Venezia an early lead and raise hopes of securing their first points of the campaign.
However, Fiorentina responded strongly, with Real Madrid loanee Franco Mastantuono turning the game around in spectacular fashion.
The 19-year-old equalised in the 29th minute before finding the net again just seconds later to complete a quick turnaround and put Fiorentina 2-1 ahead.

Venezia pushed for an equaliser before the break but were unable to find a way through as Fiorentina went into halftime with the lead.
The visitors extended their advantage in the 66th minute when Mateo Pellegrino made it 3-1, putting Fiorentina firmly in control of the contest.
Mastantuono then completed his hat-trick in the 84th minute, scoring his third goal of the night to make it 4-1 and cap a remarkable individual performance.
Antoine Hainaut pulled one back for Venezia in the 87th minute, but the late effort proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Fiorentina held on for a 4-2 victory.
The defeat leaves Venezia bottom of the Serie A table without a point from their opening four matches, while the result marks their fifth consecutive loss across all competitions.
For Fiorentina, the victory lifts them to 15th place with three points from four matches and brings an end to their three-game losing streak.
