Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a dominant display to defeat Senegal 3-0 in their second international friendly on Monday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

The emphatic victory came just three days after the 10-time African champions edged Senegal 2-1 in their first friendly encounter, as both teams continue preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Super Falcons made a bright start and created several opportunities in the opening stages. In the 13th minute, a well-worked team move saw Nigeria slice through Senegal’s defence, but Rasheedat Ajibade’s selfless pass to Joy Omewa was intercepted at the last moment.

Ajibade was again involved minutes later, setting up Omewa with a clear sight of goal. However, the striker was unable to convert as her effort hit the post.

Following a brief water break, Nigeria threatened once more. Monday Gift showed great skill on the left wing, beating several defenders before delivering a dangerous cross that was pushed away by the Senegalese goalkeeper. Ajibade and Toni Payne then got in each other’s way while attempting to pounce on the rebound, allowing another chance to slip away.

The breakthrough finally arrived four minutes into the second half. Shukurat Oladipo delivered an inviting cross into the penalty area, and Omewa headed home in clinical fashion to give Nigeria a deserved 1-0 lead.

The Super Falcons doubled their advantage in the 55th minute after capitalising on a defensive error. The visitors, trying to play out from the back, lost possession as Omewa showed her strength to win the ball, before scoring her second goal of the match.

Shortly after the goal, head coach Justin Madugu introduced Asisat Oshoala and Folashade Ijamilusi, replacing Omewa and Rinsola Babajide.

Oshoala made an immediate impact, finding the net in the 66th minute. The experienced forward tapped home from close range after being picked out by Ajibade, extending Nigeria’s lead to 3-0.

Senegal continued to search for a consolation goal in the closing stages, but the Super Falcons remained solid at the back and comfortably saw out the victory.

The back-to-back wins over Senegal will provide a significant confidence boost for Nigeria as preparations continue for the 2026 WAFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia and tournament debutants Malawi, while Senegal will compete in Group A with hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya
