International friendly: Super Falcons secure 2-1 victory over Senegal in Ikenne

The Super Falcons secured a 2-1 victory over the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal in their international friendly at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne on Friday.

The clash, which served as part of Nigeria’s preparation ahead of the 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), saw head coach Justin Madugu name a mix of veterans and young talents in his starting lineup.

The Super Falcons took the lead in the 31st minute after a penalty was awarded for a handball in the box. Veteran forward Asisat Oshoala stepped up and confidently converted the spotkick, making it 1-0.

10 minutes later, Nigeria doubled their advantage. This time, Toni Payne got the goal, producing a fine finish after a brilliant pass from Shukurat Oladipo to make it 2-0.

The second half continued in a similar fashion as the Super Falcons went in search of a third goal. However, despite creating several chances, the hosts were unable to add to their advantage.

Senegal reduced the deficit in the 86th minute as Sokhna Nogaye found the net from long range to make it 2-1. The visitors pushed for a late equaliser, but could not score another goal, with Nigeria holding on to claim victory.

Both sides will be in action once again on Monday, June 8 at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne for the second game of the doubleheader international friendly.
