Porto head coach Francesco Farioli has raised concerns over Zaidu Sanusi’s injury after the defender went off in their 3-0 win over Académico de Viseu on Saturday, Bold Sports reports.

‎The Super Eagles left-back suffered the setback in the 18th minute and was replaced by Martim Fernandes.

‎Sanusi had started Porto’s league campaign strongly before the setback. He played every minute of their first three league wins. Those victories came against Alverca, Rio Ave and Arouca. He had also completed 270 league minutes before Saturday’s match.

‎Porto coach Francesco Farioli now faces uncertainty over the defender’s condition. The Italian manager gave a worrying assessment after the match.

‎“We have to assess both of them; Zaidu’s looks like something very serious, and Jan seems to have twisted his knee. We’ll see”, Farioli said, According to OneFootball.

‎Sanusi went down after attempting to play the ball. He received treatment on the pitch. However, he could not continue.

‎The defender reportedly suffered an adductor injury. Further medical tests will determine the full extent of the problem. They should also provide a clearer recovery timeline.

‎Sanusi’s early exit did not affect Porto’s result. The Portuguese champions produced another convincing performance.

‎André Silva opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Gabri Veiga doubled the advantage before halftime. William Gomes then completed the scoring in the 38th minute.

‎The result gave Porto a fourth straight league victory. They now have 12 points from four matches. They also sit two points clear of Sporting CP.

‎Porto have therefore made a perfect start to their title defence. However, Sanusi’s injury could create a concern for Farioli.

‎The 29-year-old remains an important option at left-back. His absence could force Porto to adjust their defensive plans.

‎The injury could also affect Sanusi’s international commitments. Nigeria are preparing for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign.

‎A lengthy absence would leave the Super Eagles without a regular left-back option. The medical assessment will now be crucial.

‎For Porto, the immediate priority remains Sanusi’s recovery. The club will await further tests before determining when he can return.
