Nigeria are set to return to Adidas as their official kit supplier from 2027 after the Nigeria Football Federation agreed a package described as being worth a guaranteed $8.5 million annually.
The agreement will bring an end to the national teams’ 11-year association with Nike when the current contract expires at the end of 2026.
Former NFF president Ibrahim Musa Gusau disclosed details of the deal at a press conference in Abuja, shortly before his resignation from office.
Under the agreement, Adidas will reportedly pay the NFF $4.5 million annually in cash and provide kits and other sporting equipment valued at $4 million.

The federation will also receive a 20 per cent royalty on merchandise sales, which could push the total annual value of the partnership beyond the guaranteed $8.5 million package.
According to ESPN’s report, the contract has already been signed, although the formal announcement was initially scheduled for September.
The new package represents a substantial increase on the federation’s existing agreement with Nike.
Nigeria currently receive $500,000 in cash and equipment valued at $1 million annually from Nike, taking the total package to about $1.5 million.
Those terms have reportedly remained unchanged since Nike returned as Nigeria’s kit supplier in 2015.
Gusau said the NFF considered the agreement inadequate because of the number of national teams under its responsibility and the financial demands of supplying them for international competitions.
The federation has, at times, had to purchase additional equipment when the allocation provided under its Nike agreement was insufficient. Gusau cited the Falconets’ participation at the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland as one such occasion.
Negotiations over an improved agreement reportedly began in 2024. Nike had an opportunity to match the offer presented by Adidas but was unable to do so.
The Adidas deal arrives during a turbulent period for Nigerian football following the resignations of Gusau, NFF general secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the federation’s executive committee.
The incoming leadership will now inherit responsibility for implementing one of the most commercially significant agreements in the federation’s history.
Adidas is no stranger to Nigerian football. The German sportswear company supplied the country’s kits when the Super Eagles won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and appeared at their first FIFA World Cup later that year.
Nike took over in 1995 before Adidas returned for another decade between 2004 and 2014. Nike subsequently regained the contract in 2015.
The Nike era produced some of Nigeria’s most recognisable shirts, including the popular Super Eagles jersey released before the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
However, the NFF believes Adidas offers greater commercial opportunities, particularly through its retail presence.
Gusau said Adidas currently operates more outlets in Nigeria than Nike and plans to expand further, potentially increasing merchandise sales and the federation’s royalty earnings.
The former NFF president suggested that the additional revenue could strengthen the federation’s ability to appoint established coaches for the Super Eagles and Super Falcons.
The size of the agreement will also place renewed attention on how the NFF manages its commercial income.
Nigeria’s national teams have repeatedly faced funding challenges involving travel arrangements, coaches’ wages, players’ bonuses and preparations for major competitions. The value of the Adidas deal will therefore be measured not only by its headline figure but also by how transparently the proceeds are administered.
The NFF and Adidas had yet to publish the full contract or formally announce its duration and implementation details at the time of writing.
