Nigeria’s former youth international, Tom Dele-Bashiru, was the hero as Watford edged Sunderland 2-1 at Vicarage Road in their EFL Championship clash on Saturday.
The Manchester City academy graduate converted a penalty in the 84th minute to secure a fourth win of the season for his side, lifting them to seventh in the table.

Earlier, Festy Ebosele had given Watford the lead in the 28th minute, but Sunderland equalized through Wilson Isidor four minutes after the halftime break.
With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Watford were awarded a penalty when Kwadwo Baah was fouled in the box. Dele-Bashiru stepped up and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to seal the victory.
The goal marked Dele-Bashiru’s second of the season from seven appearances, further highlighting his importance to Tom Cleverly’s side. Dele-Bashiru has played every minute of Watford’s games this season.
After the match, Ebosele expressed his delight at contributing to Watford’s win, saying it was an incredible feeling to help his team secure maximum points.
Reacting to the win and his goal in Watford’s debut, Ebosele said it is such an amazing feeling to help his team get the maximum points.
“Feels amazing to score, feels amazing to get the win,” Ebosele told Watford.com.
