Chibuike Nwaiwu has expressed his frustration after Trabzonspor lost 1-0 to Konyaspor in the fifth week of the Turkish Süper Lig, Bold Sports reports

The Nigerian defender started the match in Konya. Trabzonspor conceded early and could not find an equaliser. Rajmund Tóth scored in the second minute to give Konyaspor all three points.

Nwaiwu’s recent form

Nwaiwu entered the game after another strong outing against Gençlerbirliği. He played 83 minutes in Trabzonspor’s 5-0 league win on September 6. He also earned a 7.8 rating from FotMob in that match.

The centre-back has started the season as an important part of Trabzonspor’s defence. He also played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 win over İstanbul Başakşehir. He featured for 90 minutes again in the 2-1 loss to Amed Sportif.

His recent run made the defeat in Konya more frustrating. Trabzonspor had just produced a five-goal response against Gençlerbirliği. However, they struggled to turn their chances into goals this time.

Nwaiwu praises travelling supporters

After the final whistle, Nwaiwu thanked the Trabzonspor supporters who travelled for the match.

He also pointed to the difference in finishing between both sides.

“I always want to say this: I thank our fans who came all the way here. Football is like that; sometimes you can’t take advantage of opportunities, while your opponent takes advantage of the opportunities they get,” he said.

The result ended Trabzonspor’s momentum after their emphatic victory over Gençlerbirliği. Konyaspor, meanwhile, claimed their first league points of the campaign with the narrow win.

Nwaiwu admits disappointment

The Nigerian international made his feelings clear after the setback. He admitted that the defeat had left him both angry and disappointed.

“Actually, I’m very angry and very sad right now. It was a very demoralizing defeat for all of us,” he said.

Trabzonspor have also started the season with a change in the dugout. Fatih Tekke left his position earlier this month. Hüseyin Çimşir then took interim charge of the team.

Çimşir guided Trabzonspor to the 5-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği. The Konyaspor defeat has now increased the pressure on the Turkish club to find consistency under his leadership.

Nwaiwu and his teammates must now respond quickly. The defeat leaves Trabzonspor with work to do as the Süper Lig campaign continues.
