Osimhen, Ajibade, Nnadozie: Who voted for Nigeria’s finalists in CAF Awards 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have released the complete voting breakdown for the 2025 CAF Awards, which took place on November 19 in Rabat, Morocco, Bold Sports reports.

The ceremony, which was held at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University brought together players, coaches and officials from across Africa to honour excellence on the Continent.

Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak emerged as the top winners on the night, claiming the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year honours respectively. For Nigeria, Chiamaka Nnadozie was named Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the third time in a row, while the Super Falcons were awarded Women’s National Team of the Year.

According to CAF, the results were determined through a comprehensive and inclusive voting process involving: National Team Coaches of all 54 CAF Member Associations, National Team Captains of all 54 Member Associations, CAF Technical Study Group (TSG) members and Media representatives from each of the 54 Member Associations.

With the full voting data now made public, giving insight into selections by coaches, captains, TSG members and journalists, we take a closer look at the five categories involving Nigerian finalists.

MEN’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Achraf Hakimi comfortably topped the voting for the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, securing 533 points to finish well ahead of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, who amassed 317 points, while Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen placed third with 240 points.

From Nigeria, both the Super Eagles’ head coach/technical director and team captain ranked Osimhen first, followed by Hakimi and Pape Matar Sarr in second and third respectively. Morocco’s delegation, unsurprisingly, threw full support behind their star man, voting Hakimi first, Salah second and Serhou Guirassy third.

Egypt’s voting showed strong backing for Salah. The Pharaohs’ coach/technical director selected Salah as his top choice, ahead of Hakimi and Fiston Mayele, while the national captain mirrored the same top two choices but opted for Osimhen in third place.

Surprisingly, Super Eagles legend and Technical expert Daniel Amokachi left Osimhen out of his top three, instead choosing Hakimi as his Player of the Year, with André-Frank Zambo Anguissa second and Salah third.

Other media representatives were similarly divided. Egypt’s Amr Fahmy voted Hakimi, Salah, and Mayele in that order, while Morocco’s Morad Mourawakkil selected Hakimi first, followed by Oussama Lamlioui and Salah.

WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

For the Women’s Player of the Year award, Ghizlane Chebbak won the category with 223 total points, finishing ahead of the Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who placed second with 155 points, and Sanna Mssoudy, who came third with 135 points.

Okoronkwo Esther, who many felt deserved a top–three spot after an outstanding year for club and country, finished just outside the podium places with 134 points, narrowly missing out by a single point.

Nigeria’s coach/technical director voted the AFC Toronto forward as Player of the Year, placing her above Ajibade in second and Chebbak in third. In contrast, Morocco’s coach/TD voted Ghana’s Portia Boakye first, followed by Racheal Kundananji and Ajibade in third.

For the players’ vote, Morocco’s captain named Chebbak first, with Mssoudy second and Tabitha Chawinga third.

Again, Nigeria’s media personnel Samuel Ahmadu did not include Ajibade in his top three, instead selecting Barbra Banda as first, Chawinga as second and Okoronkwo Esther as third. In stark contrast, Morocco’s media representative Dounia Siraj voted Chebbak first, Mssoudy second and Ajibade third.

WOMEN’S GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award was one of the most straightforward categories at the CAF ceremony, as Chiamaka Nnadozie claimed the honour for the third consecutive year with 181 points. South Africa’s Andile Dlamini finished second with 141 points, while Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi placed third with 109 points.

Nigeria’s coach/technical director unsurprisingly voted Nnadozie first, followed by Khadija in second and Dlamini in third. The Super Falcons captain made a similar choice, selecting Nnadozie as her winner but opting for Cynthia Konlan in second and Khadija in third.

South Africa’s captain also backed Nnadozie, voting her first ahead of teammate Dlamini, with Konlan taking the third spot. Meanwhile, Morocco’s coach/TD and captain did not submit votes in this category.

Among media representatives, Nigeria’s Samuel Ahmadu left Nnadozie out of his top three, selecting Cynthia Konlan first, Adji Ndiaye second and Dlamini third. In contrast, Morocco’s Dounia Siraj voted Nnadozie first, with Habiba Emad Sabry second and Dlamini third.

WOMEN’S YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Doha El Madani

Morocco’s Doha El Madani claimed this award with a total of 91 points, finishing ahead of Nigeria’s Shakirat Moshood, who placed second with 46 points, while Senegal’s Adji Ndiaye came third with 45 points.

In the media voting for this category, Nigeria’s Samuel Ahmadu selected Adji Ndiaye as his top choice, followed by Doha El Madani in second and Ester Marwa in third, leaving Moshood outside his top three.

Morocco’s media representative Dounia Siraj backed El Madani for first place, with Habiba Sabry second and Shakirat Moshood third. Meanwhile, Senegal’s Ndeye Dome Thiouf opted for Shakirat Moshood as the winner, followed by Habiba Esam and Winfrida Gerald in second and third respectively.

WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM OF THE YEAR

In another straightforward victory, Nigeria’s Super Falcons, the ten-time Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champions, claimed the Women’s National Team of the Year award with 106 points, finishing ahead of Morocco with 98 points and Ghana with 55 points.

Of the 29 voters in this category, the Super Falcons were ranked first 15 times, second four times, and third five times. Meanwhile, the Nigeria U-17 women’s team also featured in the top five, finishing with 28 points.

Nigeria’s media representative Samuel Ahmadu ranked Tanzania as the best women’s national team, placed South Africa second and Ghana third, while the Super Falcons only came fifth on his list.
