Moroccan fullback Achraf Hakimi has been named the CAF Men’s Player of the Year for 2025, beating Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah to claim the continent’s top individual honour.
The award was presented on Wednesday, November 19, at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat during the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a stellar season for both club and country. At Paris Saint-Germain, he played a pivotal role in the club’s historic treble-winning campaign, which saw them lift the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, and the French Cup.
Known for his versatility, Hakimi combined defensive solidity with attacking flair, contributing nine goals and 12 assists across all competitions in the 2024-25 season.
Hakimi’s influence extended to the international stage, where he captained Morocco to a perfect World Cup qualifying campaign. The Atlas Lions won all eight of their matches, securing an automatic berth for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further cementing Hakimi’s status as one of Africa’s finest talents.
For Osimhen, the award represents a missed opportunity to claim the accolade for a second time, having previously won in 2023. The 26-year-old striker enjoyed a phenomenal season on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray, helping the club to a domestic double with 37 goals and seven assists across all competitions.

Osimhen has carried that momentum into the current campaign, already netting nine goals, including six in the UEFA Champions League, placing him ahead of European stars Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Harry Kane, who each have five.
On the international stage, Osimhen was among the top scorers in the CAF World Cup qualification campaign. He also scored a brace in Nigeria’s playoff semifinals against Gabon, though his efforts ultimately could not secure Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
