Lagos Wolverines emerged champions of the Season Three Community Flag Football League (CFFL) Unity Bowl after defeating defending champions Spartans 21-6 in a commanding performance at the CIS Stadium in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

The victory marked sweet revenge for the Wolverines, who had fallen to the Spartans in the previous edition’s final. This time, however, they delivered a dominant display to clinch the coveted title in convincing fashion.

The Wolverines booked their place in the championship game with a hard-fought victory over Lagos Lions in the semi-finals, while the Spartans secured their second consecutive final appearance after overcoming Titans in their bid to retain the crown.

Despite entering the final as defending champions, the Spartans were unable to withstand a determined Wolverines side that controlled the contest and capped off an impressive campaign by lifting the Season Three Unity Bowl trophy.

The Community Flag Football League (CFFL), which officially launched in 2025, continues to play a significant role in the development of flag football in Nigeria by providing a competitive platform for emerging talents across Lagos.

The league features eight teams, including Outlaws, Wolverines, Spartans, Lagos Lions, Mavericks, Titans, Squad X and Panthers, competing for the championship while helping to raise the profile of one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.

Flag football, a non-contact version of American football, has gained global popularity for its speed, tactical play and inclusivity. By eliminating heavy physical contact, the sport offers a safer alternative while maintaining the excitement and competitiveness of the traditional game.

Beyond competition, the CFFL is committed to growing the sport through youth development, player empowerment and infrastructure expansion. The league aims to create pathways for Nigerian athletes to compete at the highest level while strengthening the country’s flag football ecosystem.

With flag football set to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, the CFFL has also set its sights on preparing the next generation of Nigerian players capable of representing the country on the global stage
