Alex Iwobi was the star of the show as Fulham came from behind to beat Brentford 3-1 and secure their second Premier League win of the season.
The Nigeria international delivered a complete performance at Craven Cottage, scoring one and setting up another as Marco Silva’s men turned on the style.
Brentford had taken the lead in the first half after Mikkel Damsgaard punished a poor pass from Josh King, but Iwobi hauled Fulham level minutes later. The ball dropped kindly to him after Sasa Lukic’s effort deflected in the box, and he coolly swept it through the legs of Brentford captain Nathan Collins to restore parity.
Iwobi then produced the game’s standout moment barely two minutes later. Collecting possession in midfield, he split the Brentford defence with a perfectly weighted pass that Harry Wilson raced onto before drilling past Caoimhin Kelleher to put Fulham ahead.
Fulham’s confidence grew from there and they extended their lead after the break, when Ethan Pinnock turned Ryan Sessegnon’s cross into his own net. Rodrigo Muniz thought he had added a fourth with a spectacular half-volley, but VAR intervened and the goal was disallowed for a foul in the build-up.
The victory lifted Fulham to seventh on the table, while Brentford slipped to 17th.
For Iwobi, it was a statement display. He scored and assisted in the same Premier League game for just the second time in his career, the first coming against Liverpool in April. Beyond the numbers, his intelligence on the ball and ability to dictate transitions drove Fulham’s attacking threat.
His strike was instinctive, but his assist was pure quality, a defence-splitting pass that highlighted why Silva entrusted him to spearhead Fulham’s attacking intent.
