Nigerian long jump sensation Ese Brume has once again proven her dominance in African athletics, clinching her fourth gold medal at the African Athletics Championships in Douala.
The victory extends her undefeated streak on the continent to an impressive eight years.
In a thrilling women’s long jump final, Brume found herself in second place behind Burkina Faso’s Marthe Koala, who led with a jump of 6.72m after five attempts. However, Brume’s experience and determination shone through in the final round. With everything on the line, she produced a clutch performance, leaping 6.73m to snatch the gold medal from Koala by just one centimeter.
Koala’s impressive effort earned her the silver medal, while South Africa’s Daniele Nolte secured the bronze with a jump of 6.44m. Nigeria’s Prestina Ochonogor finished just off the podium in fourth place with a jump of 6.28m.
This victory further cements Brume’s status as one of Africa’s premier athletes. Her fourth African title adds to an already impressive resume, which includes an Olympic bronze medal from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Brume’s would expect to take her form to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
