Edo Queens’ Cordelia Odoma and Emem Essien have been named in the CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024 group stage Best XI, released by CAF’s Technical Study Group (TSG).
The TSG, consisting of top African football experts, analysts, and coaches, recognized standout performers after the group stage of the tournament, which has seen thrilling matches and impressive individual displays.
The Best XI features four players from hosts and 2022 champions AS FAR, two from Nigeria’s Edo Queens, two from debutants FC Masar, and one each from Mamelodi Sundowns, TP Mazembe, and the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
AS FAR’s Khadija Er-Rmichi secured the goalkeeper spot, conceding just once during the group stage. Defenders Odoma of Edo Queens and Karabo Dhlamini of Mamelodi Sundowns feature as full-backs, with Nouhaila Benzina (AS FAR) and Shadia Nankya (FC Masar) forming the central defensive duo.
In midfield, UWC’s Amogelang Motau takes the deep-lying role, while AS FAR’s Sanaa Mssoudy and FC Masar’s Sandrine Niyonkuru provide the creative spark.
Edo Queens striker Emem Essien headlines the forward line, joined by Doha El Madani (AS FAR) and Lacho Marta (TP Mazembe).
Essien’s inclusion comes after her decisive performances, including her stoppage-time heroics against Mamelodi Sundowns, which helped Edo Queens top Group B and secure a semifinal spot against TP Mazembe.
