Benjamin Fredrick has taken another significant step in his career after earning promotion to Brentford’s first-team squad ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season and signing a new long-term contract with the club.
Brentford confirmed the development on Friday, announcing that the Super Eagles centre-back has signed a new four-year deal that runs until 2030, with the club holding the option to extend it by a further year.
The 21-year-old has already joined Keith Andrews’ squad for pre-season preparations after an impressive loan spell at Belgian Pro League side FCV Dender, where he made 15 appearances before sustaining a serious knee injury.
Speaking on Fredrick’s promotion and contract extension, Brentford head coach Keith Andrews expressed confidence in the Nigerian’s potential and outlined the club’s plans for his development.
“We’re delighted that Benji has signed a new deal and is going to be part of the group this season, because we see a lot of potential in him and where we can bring his game to,” Andrews said.
The Brentford boss also highlighted the defender’s international experience and productive loan spell in Belgium before injury interrupted his progress.
“He’s already played senior international football and was a big part of Nigeria’s team in their World Cup qualifying campaign.
“Last season, he had a really productive loan in Belgium that was unfortunately cut short due to injury.”
Andrews added that Fredrick’s immediate objective will be to regain full match sharpness after spending several months on the sidelines.
“The first port of call for Benji is to integrate into the squad consistently. His last game was the middle of November, so that’s a long time he’s had out through injury.
“He’s then got to come into the first-team space, challenge his team-mates and show the ability and the personality which I know he has.”

Brentford B team head coach Sam Saunders also praised the Nigerian defender’s remarkable progress since arriving at the club, describing him as one of the standout young talents to emerge from the development squad.
“Benji has been an absolute pleasure to have ever since he came through to the B team. I’m really, really proud of his progression and the levels he’s gone up in his time at Brentford,” Saunders said.
“He’s an amazing character, a really likeable lad, very coachable, a top guy who is such a brave young player at such a young age. He’s got outstanding attributes in his one-v-one defending and is getting better and better all the time.
“Benji has already proved that he can go and play internationally and do really well, so we’re really excited to see where that leads him in his career.”
Fredrick’s promotion to the senior squad represents another milestone in his rapid development and gives him the opportunity to compete for a place in Brentford’s Premier League team during the 2026/27 campaign while continuing his progress at both club and international level
