Benjamin Fredrick has expressed his delight after signing a new four-year contract with Brentford, describing the milestone as a proud moment for both himself and his family as he prepares to join the club’s first-team squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 21-year-old Nigerian defender, who has also been promoted to Brentford’s senior squad following his impressive development with the Bees, reflected on his journey since arriving in west London on an initial loan deal in August 2023.
Speaking after putting pen to paper on his new contract, Fredrick admitted that adapting to life at Brentford was not easy but credited the club, particularly former B-team head coach Neil MacFarlane, for helping him settle and develop.
“It’s a great feeling. I’m happy and proud of myself, and my family are proud of me as well,” Fredrick said.

“The club has helped me a lot. When I came here, I was a little bit nervous and shy. I didn’t know how to do the basics because where I’m from is a little bit different to here.”
The Super Eagles defender reserved special praise for MacFarlane, who now serves as Brentford’s assistant first-team coach, describing him as a key figure in his growth both on and off the pitch.
“Especially Neil when I first came here. He always encouraged me, never shouted when I made mistakes and just told me to keep my head down and keep playing. He’s helped me grow as a player and a person as well.”
Having secured his place in Keith Andrews’ first-team plans, Fredrick is now focused on taking the next step in his career by earning his senior debut for the Premier League club.
“I just want to keep pushing and learning every single day,” he said. “My aim is to make my debut with the first team, get Premier League minutes and give my best when I have the opportunity.”
