Christian Akpan has extended his stay at Belgian Pro League club Genk after signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2030, Bold Sports reports.
The 21-year-old full-back, who recently made his Super Eagles debut in an international friendly against Portugal, has been rewarded for his steady rise since joining Jong Genk in 2023.
Akpan established himself as a key player for the reserve side, making 59 official appearances while impressing with his versatility. Although primarily a right-back, he also featured at left-back and in defensive midfield, demonstrating his tactical flexibility and consistency.

His impressive performances earned him a promotion to Genk’s senior squad last season. He made his first-team debut in the club’s playoff clash against Gent, where he delivered a standout display that saw him voted Man of the Match by the supporters.
Despite attracting interest from other clubs, Akpan has chosen to continue his development at Genk by committing his long-term future to the Belgian outfit.
“We are pleased that Christian wants to commit his future to our club,” Genk’s Head of Football, Dimitri de Condé, said after the announcement.
“Furthermore, due to his versatility, he is an extremely interesting profile for the technical staff. Players like him give coaches the ability to switch tactics during a match if necessary.”

Having secured his future at the club, Akpan will now be aiming to build on his breakthrough season and establish himself as a regular in Genk’s first team during the 2026/27 campaign while continuing his progress with the Super Eagles.
