Nigerian football fans have several reasons to follow Saturday’s Premier League action, with four Super Eagles internationals involved in important fixtures across England, Bold sports reports.

Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey will represent Fulham against Newcastle United. Meanwhile, Semi Ajayi faces a difficult afternoon as Hull City travel to Arsenal. Ola Aina could also feature when Nottingham Forest welcome Manchester City.

The four Nigerians enter the weekend with different responsibilities. However, their performances could prove important for their respective clubs as the Premier League approaches another international break.

Alex Iwobi leads Fulham’s attacking threat

Iwobi remains one of Fulham’s important attacking outlets under manager Álvaro Arbeloa. The midfielder has recorded nine Premier League appearances this season, scoring once.

His most significant contribution came against Hull City on October 17. The Nigerian scored the decisive goal in Fulham’s 1-0 victory at Craven Cottage. That result ended the club’s wait for a league win.

Iwobi also featured in Fulham’s previous league encounter against Aston Villa. He played 75 minutes as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw on October 31.

The 30-year-old will now look to influence proceedings against Newcastle. His ability to carry possession, create opportunities and operate between midfield and attack gives Fulham another dimension offensively.

Calvin Bassey targets another commanding defensive display

Bassey is another Nigerian worth watching at Craven Cottage. The defender has established himself as an important member of Fulham’s defensive structure.

He has featured in nine Premier League matches this season, according to available season data.

The Nigerian produced another full defensive performance against Aston Villa. He completed 90 minutes during Fulham’s 1-1 draw at Villa Park.

Bassey will face a Newcastle side searching for consistency. The Magpies suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Everton in their previous league outing.

His defensive positioning, physical presence and ability to progress possession could prove valuable. Fulham will need those qualities to contain Newcastle’s attacking threats.

Semi Ajayi faces difficult Arsenal test

Hull City’s trip to the Emirates Stadium presents another important opportunity for Semi Ajayi.

The Super Eagles defender has featured in nine Premier League matches this season scoring once.

His only league goal came during Hull’s opening-day 2-0 victory over Manchester United. Ajayi has also maintained his position in the starting lineup throughout the campaign.

He completed 90 minutes in Hull’s most recent league fixture. The Tigers played out a 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town on October 31.

However, Saturday’s encounter presents a different challenge. Arsenal possess considerable attacking quality and will expect to control proceedings at home.

Ajayi’s defensive organisation, aerial ability and concentration will therefore face a serious examination. Hull will need a disciplined performance to frustrate the hosts.

Ola Aina faces Manchester City challenge

Nottingham Forest also have Nigerian representation ahead of their meeting with Manchester City.

Ola Aina remains an important defensive option for Forest. However, his involvement requires attention following his latest appearance against Brentford.

The Nigerian started Forest’s previous league fixture at the Gtech Community Stadium. He played the first half before the manager introduced a replacement at the interval.

Forest eventually suffered a 2-0 defeat. Aina will now hope to feature against Manchester City, although his starting position remains uncertain.

The visitors arrive after a 3-2 Champions League victory over RB Leipzig. However, they previously suffered consecutive Premier League defeats against Aston Villa and Brighton.

Forest must therefore deliver a strong defensive performance. If selected, Aina’s versatility and ability to defend wide areas could become important against City’s attacking movement.

Saturday’s Premier League fixtures

The Nigerian players’ respective fixtures are scheduled as follows:

  • 4:00 pm: Arsenal vs Hull City – Semi Ajayi.
  • 4:00 pm: Fulham vs Newcastle United – Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.
  • 6:30 pm: Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City – Ola Aina.

All kick-off times are in Nigerian time (WAT).

For Nigerian supporters, the afternoon offers several opportunities to follow the Super Eagles contingent in England.

Iwobi will look to influence Fulham’s attacking play, while Bassey and Ajayi face important defensive assignments. Aina, meanwhile, will hope to earn an opportunity against Manchester City.

Their individual performances will provide another indication of the Nigerian influence across English football.
