Lazio are reportedly planning a contract extension for Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru as they prepare for the coming seasons under head coach Gennaro Gattuso, Bold Sports reports.
The Nigerian midfielder returned to action on October 11, featuring in Lazio’s 3-1 Serie A victory over Monza. He entered the game in the 60th minute after recovering from a hamstring injury. His return gives Gattuso another midfield option as Lazio consider his long-term future.
Lazio target Dele-Bashiru for contract extension
According to Corriere dello Sport, via Lazio News 24, Lazio have identified Dele-Bashiru among the players they want to retain.
The 25-year-old’s current contract runs until 2028. However, the Italian club reportedly wants to begin discussions early rather than wait until his deal approaches its final months.
The proposed renewal would reflect Lazio’s intention to keep the midfielder beyond his existing contract. The club also hopes to strengthen its squad while protecting the value of key players.
Dele-Bashiru is not the only player involved in the renewal plans. Lazio are also considering new deals for Danish winger Gustav Isaksen and Italian midfielder Nicolò Rovella.
Their contracts also expire in 2028. The club reportedly wants to extend their deals and offer improved salaries as part of its long-term planning.
Injury setback interrupted Dele-Bashiru’s season
Dele-Bashiru suffered a hamstring injury during Lazio’s opening Serie A fixture against Bologna on August 24.
The setback forced him to miss several matches. It also ruled him out of Nigeria’s September and October international assignments.
The midfielder subsequently returned to group training before receiving medical clearance to play again.

Gattuso then handed him minutes against Monza on October 11. Lazio won the match 3-1, allowing the Nigerian to resume competitive action after his spell on the sidelines.
His return could prove important as the club prepares for a demanding period of domestic fixtures.
December could bring contract discussions
Lazio reportedly expect to initiate or intensify discussions with the representatives of their targeted players by December.
The club wants to establish a clearer picture of its contractual commitments before the winter transfer window. However, no agreement has been announced for Dele-Bashiru or the other players involved.
A renewal would give Lazio greater certainty over the Nigerian midfielder’s future. It would also underline the club’s willingness to retain him as part of its plans for the coming seasons.
For Dele-Bashiru, the immediate priority will be to regain full match fitness and establish himself in Gattuso’s squad following his injury recovery.
With his contract running until 2028, Lazio have time to negotiate. Nevertheless, the reported plans suggest the club wants to address his future before the final year of his current deal.
