Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella has declared Bayer Leverkusen’s ambition to win the UEFA Europa League ahead of their clash with Lech Poznań on Thursday, 15 October 2026, Bold Sports reports.
Leverkusen travel to Poland for their second league-phase fixture. Tella previously scored in their 2-1 victory over Molde on 5 October 2023. That campaign saw the German club reach the final with an unbeaten European run. The 27-year-old now hopes to help the Werkself create more memorable nights.
Tella recalls memorable European nights
Tella reflected on his experiences during the 2023/24 Europa League campaign at Wednesday’s pre-match press conference.
“Those were magical nights. We want to build on those, as well as the last few games,” Tella said.
The Nigerian international also recalled his first European goal for Leverkusen. He found the net against Molde during the group stage in October 2023.
“This competition means a lot to me. They were my first games in Europe,” he added.

Those memories remain significant as Leverkusen pursue another successful European campaign. Their immediate focus, however, is Thursday’s meeting with Polish champions Lech Poznań.
Leverkusen target victory against Lech Poznań
Leverkusen will aim to build momentum when they face Lech Poznań away from home. The German side opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Celje.
Meanwhile, Lech Poznań will look to respond after losing 4-0 to Crystal Palace in their opening fixture.
Leverkusen will also enjoy support from 1,150 travelling fans in Poland. Tella believes the club’s ambitions remain unchanged as they pursue the trophy.
“Our ambitions haven’t changed. We go into a competition to win it. We want to be there in Frankfurt in May. That’s our aspiration.”
Tella eyes another successful European campaign
Leverkusen want to turn their ambitions into results as the league phase progresses. Their ultimate target is the final in Frankfurt in May 2027.
For Tella, the competition offers another opportunity to build on his previous European experiences. The Nigerian winger will hope to contribute as Leverkusen begin their pursuit of another continental trophy.
Thursday’s encounter with Lech Poznań presents their next test. A positive result would strengthen their position as they continue their Europa League campaign.
