Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu scored before suffering an injury as Trabzonspor defeated Finnish side KuPS Kuopio 4-2 in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Onuachu has now scored in European competition after finding the net in Trabzonspor’s recent domestic campaign. He scored twice in their 5-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği on September 6. He also featured in their 3-0 win against Samsunspor on October 10. His latest goal gave Trabzonspor an early advantage, although his injury cut short his European appearance.
Onuachu scores before early withdrawal
Trabzonspor took the lead in the third minute at Tammelan Stadium. Onuachu finished a pass from Mohamed Salah to put the Turkish visitors ahead.
However, the Nigerian forward suffered an injury just minutes later. Trabzonspor replaced him with Franculino Djú in the 10th minute.
Despite losing their goalscorer early, Trabzonspor continued to attack. Mohamed Salah doubled their advantage in the 44th minute, sending the visitors into half-time with a 2-0 lead.
Djú then made an immediate impact after the break. He scored in the 47th minute to extend Trabzonspor’s advantage to three goals.
Trabzonspor hold off KuPS comeback
KuPS responded through Petteri Pennanen in the 54th minute. His goal reduced the deficit and gave the Finnish side hope of mounting a comeback.

However, Djú struck again in stoppage time. His 90th-minute goal restored Trabzonspor’s three-goal cushion.
KuPS added another goal through Gustav Engvall in the 90th minute plus six minutes. Nevertheless, Trabzonspor held on to secure a 4-2 victory.
Injury concern overshadows Onuachu’s goal
Although Trabzonspor claimed all three points, Onuachu’s condition remains a concern. His early withdrawal prevented him from building on his promising start.
The striker had earned a starting role after making recent substitute appearances. His selection against KuPS offered an opportunity to strengthen his position in the team.
Trabzonspor had not announced an official diagnosis or recovery timeline in the available reports. His fitness will therefore remain an important talking point ahead of the club’s upcoming fixtures.
