Super Falcons forward Gift Monday has shared an emotional farewell message to Washington Spirit following her move to fellow National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Boston Legacy.

The 24-year-old officially joined Boston Legacy on October 8 after Washington Spirit agreed to a trade worth US$500,000 in transfer threshold funds, alongside a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

Reacting to her departure, Monday took to her official Instagram page on Thursday to express gratitude to Washington Spirit for being part of her professional journey, describing the decision to leave as an emotional moment.

“Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when the memories mean so much. I’m leaving with a grateful heart, beautiful memories, and a little sadness that words cannot explain,” she wrote.

“Thank you for being part of my journey. Though we may be going our separate ways, you will always have a special place in my heart. All the best fam, take care and never forget me.”

Monday joined Washington Spirit from Spanish club UD Tenerife in March 2025 and quickly established herself as an important attacking option for the American side.

She made her club debut on April 12, 2025, coming off the bench in a 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville FC.

Just a week later, the Nigerian forward recorded her first NWSL start and goal, scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory over league leaders Orlando Pride.

The Super Falcons star continued to shine during the 2025 season, delivering a historic performance on September 28 by scoring a hat-trick within the opening 36 minutes to inspire Washington Spirit to a dominant 4-0 victory over Houston Dash.

Her remarkable display set a new NWSL record for the fastest hat-trick from kickoff, underlining her exceptional goalscoring prowess and growing influence in the league.

Having made a strong impression during her time in Washington, the Nigerian international will now look to build on that success at Boston Legacy as she begins a new chapter in her NWSL career.
