Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has delivered an update on Ademola Lookman ahead of their upcoming La Liga fixture against Elche CF.
The Nigerian forward suffered a minor abductor injury during Atlético’s Copa del Rey final clash with Real Sociedad, forcing him off in the second half.
Lookman had earlier made his mark in that final, scoring in the first half before being replaced by Nicolás González in the 63rd minute. The early signs suggest the issue is not serious, offering hope to Atlético fans ahead of a crucial run of matches.
Since joining Atlético Madrid from Atalanta BC during the winter transfer window, Lookman has quickly become a key attacking figure. He scored in the Copa del Rey final against Real Sociedad and has consistently influenced games in recent weeks, establishing himself as one of the team’s most reliable forwards. His attacking output has added urgency and creativity to Simeone’s system at a decisive stage of the season.
Speaking before the Elche clash via Futbol Fantasy, Simeone remained cautiously optimistic about the forward’s recovery, including other absentees:

“Well, we’ll see how Alex Sorloth and Lookman recover from this minor injury they’ve had, and hopefully they’ll be fully recovered for Saturday, which is possible, according to the doctors, who are more knowledgeable. From there, we’ll count on José Giménez; I don’t think so yet. And with Hancko, he’s progressing very well, and we hope to continue this process to see if he can also help us on Saturday.”
A quick return for Lookman would significantly strengthen Atlético ahead of their UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal FC. With European success now their primary target this season, his presence could prove decisive.
