Nigerian forward Gift Orban has come under scrutiny following a post-match altercation with a supporter after Hellas Verona lost 1–0 to AC Milan in a Serie A fixture on Sunday.
Orban has still delivered notable numbers this season despite Verona’s struggles. The 23-year-old has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 28 league appearances. He also featured in the Milan defeat, showing his continued importance to the team as they fight to finish the campaign strongly.
Reports indicate the situation escalated when Orban declined a fan’s request for a photograph while leaving the stadium. The supporter allegedly reacted by striking the player’s vehicle. In response, Orban exited his car, leading to a physical confrontation.
The incident has sparked debate among fans and observers, especially given Verona’s difficult season in the Serie A. Many believe emotions are running high due to the club’s current position.
“This was an unacceptable act. I feel very sorry for everyone involved.”
He also highlighted the need for players to value supporter loyalty:
“It’s clear that Orban was very nervous, but a player should always be proud of the fans’ support, even more so when things are bad like they are for Verona.”

“You might feel down, you might just want to leave, but the fans are there for the team, for the passion, for the love they have for Hellas Verona. They’re there for you too, and you should be grateful.”
Zigoni emphasized reconciliation rather than punishment, suggesting a direct conversation could resolve tensions.
”I hope Orban can meet with the fan and apologize. I believe and hope he understands the gravity of what he did, which is why I’m calling for a peaceful discussion.”
“Those are the club’s decisions; it’s not up to me to decide the most appropriate ones.”
Orban’s attention will now turn back to his performances on the pitch as the season enters its final stretch. Still, the recent incident may also play a role in shaping how he is viewed by both supporters and the club moving forward.
