Alex Iwobi delivered a goal and an assist as Fulham reignited their European ambitions with a commanding 3-1 away victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
With the race for continental qualification heating up, Marco Silva’s men knew dropped points were no longer an option. On a difficult surface against a Sunderland side that had built a reputation for resilience at home, Fulham rose to the occasion when it mattered most.
After a tightly contested first half, Fulham found their breakthrough in the 54th minute. Iwobi’s perfectly delivered corner was met by Raúl Jiménez, who powered home to give the visitors a crucial lead.
Jiménez soon doubled Fulham’s advantage from the penalty spot, putting them firmly in control and strengthening their grip on three priceless points in the European race.

Sunderland responded through a penalty converted by, threatening to shift the momentum.
But Fulham’s European charge would not be denied.
With Sunderland pushing forward, Fulham executed a devastating counter-attack. Harry Wilson showed composure in transition to pick out Iwobi, who timed his run to perfection before lifting a delicate finish over the goalkeeper in the 85th minute to seal the victory.
The goal capped a decisive display from the Nigerian midfielder – one that underlined his growing influence in Fulham’s late-season surge.
Speaking after the game, Iwobi acknowledged the importance of the result in the context of their European ambitions.

“We knew it was going to be difficult, the pitch wasn’t great for us. If we want to climb up the table, we have to get these points away from home. They’ve been very good at home, so it’s good that we were able to get the result we want.”
On his goal, he revealed the work behind the scenes that paid off on the night.
“When H (Harry Wilson) was on the ball, it was just me and Oscar running up the pitch. We’ve been working on this in training – in transition. He found me, I saw where the goalkeeper was positioned, and the only place to finish was over his foot. Credit to H, and to us for getting the three points.”
Rather than getting carried away, Iwobi struck a measured tone when asked about European qualification.

“We take it step-by-step. We got the three points, and that was the aim – to climb above them. We’ll see where it is at the end of the season.”
The win not only ends Fulham’s recent winless run but also sends a strong message to their rivals in the battle for continental spots.
With Iwobi in this form, Fulham’s European dream remains very much alive.
