Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi defeated world champion Oblique Seville in a thrilling men’s 100m race, storming to victory in 9.84 seconds at the London Diamond League on Saturday.
Ajayi’s winning time equalled his Nigerian national record as he once again proved his quality against a world-class field.
The Nigerian celebrated emphatically after crossing the finish line, turning towards the Jamaican champion in the adjacent lane.

Seville finished second in 9.87 seconds, while Great Britain’s Romell Glave delivered an impressive performance to claim third place.
The victory further underlines Ajayi’s growing status among the world’s leading sprinters, having also defeated Seville with the same 9.84-second time at the Prefontaine Classic earlier in July.
Ajayi initially set the Nigerian record at the 2026 NCAA East First Round, surpassing Olusoji Fasuba’s long-standing national mark.

The latest victory represents another major boost for the 21-year-old Nigerian as he continues his impressive 2026 campaign.
