Nigeria-eligible winger Sheyi Ojo has completed a move to Kazakhstan Premier League side FC Aktobe after joining the five-time league champions as a free agent. The former England U20 World Cup winner signed following the expiration of his contract with Slovenian club NK Maribor, Boldsports report.
The 29-year-old winger joined the club following the expiry of his contract with Slovenian outfit NK Maribor, with Aktobe confirming the transfer in an official club statement.
Ojo arrives in Kazakhstan after featuring for NK Maribor and adds significant experience to Aktobe’s squad. The Liverpool academy graduate has built an extensive career across Europe, representing clubs in England, Scotland, France, Belgium and Slovenia.
He also remains eligible to play for Nigeria through his parents and has previously stated that he would consider representing the Super Eagles if approached by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Aktobe welcomed the winger with an announcement highlighting his football journey. The club noted that Ojo developed through Liverpool’s academy before progressing to the senior team.
During his career, he has also played for Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, Cardiff City and Millwall in England. His overseas spells include Reims in France, Rangers in Scotland, Kortrijk in Belgium and most recently NK Maribor in Slovenia.
The Kazakhstan club expressed its excitement after completing the signing and wished the winger success with his new team.
Ojo represented England at every major youth level from the U16s through to the U21s. His biggest international achievement came in 2017 when he helped England win the FIFA U20 World Cup alongside Ademola Lookman.
Despite his England youth career, Ojo has openly acknowledged his Nigerian heritage.
His arrival gives FC Aktobe another experienced attacking option as the club continues its campaign in the Kazakhstan Premier League.
