Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been named in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) Team of the Week for Matchday One following his impressive performance for Chippa United in Saturday’s goalless draw against Golden Arrows.
Nwabali, who recently returned to the club after taking time away for personal reasons, was immediately restored to the starting line-up. He delivered a commanding performance to help Chippa United secure a valuable point on the road in their opening game of the season.
Despite being out of competitive action since leaving the club in February, the Super Eagles shot-stopper showed no signs of rust, making six crucial saves to deny Golden Arrows.
His outstanding display earned him a place in the league’s Team of the Week, making him the only Chippa United player selected in the best XI.

Nwabali was chosen to start in goal in a 3-4-3 formation, with Kaizer Chiefs’ Reeve Frosler, Orlando Pirates’ Lebone Seema and Polokwane City’s Semangele Manthosi forming the three-man defence.
The midfield featured Kaizer Chiefs’ Ethan Chislett, Orlando Pirates’ Camren Dansin and AmaZulu’s Athini Maqokolo, while Sekhukhune United’s Bright Ndlovu, Kaizer Chiefs’ Wandile Duba and Siwelele FC’s Vincent Pule made up the attacking trio.
Nwabali, who was also named Man of the Match, will now turn his attention to Chippa United’s next fixture against Richards Bay.
