Stanley Nwabali is back at Chippa United, the South African club has confirmed, ending the Super Eagles goalkeeper’s spell away from football that began when the two parties parted ways by mutual consent back in February.
The Chilli Boys announced the shot-stopper’s return on Sunday via their official social media platforms, welcoming him back to the Eastern Cape outfit ahead of the new season.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Nwabali back to the Chilli boys,” the club said in a statement. “After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club. His experience, leadership, and presence will once again be a valuable addition to the squad as we continue preparations for the season ahead.”
Nwabali first arrived in South Africa in 2022, when his move to Chippa United marked his first taste of football outside Nigeria after spells with a string of NPFL clubs including Katsina United, Enyimba, Go Round FC, Wikki Tourists, and Lobi Stars.
His first stint at the club saw him make 76 appearances across all competitions, during which he kept 25 clean sheets.
Eyeing a Return to the National Team

With his club future now settled, attention turns to whether Nwabali can force his way back into Nigeria’s starting lineup. The 30-year-old’s last competitive appearance came in January at the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was the hero of Nigeria’s third-place finish, saving penalties from Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush in a display that underlined his big-game credentials.
However, his months without a club took a toll on his standing with the Super Eagles. Udinese’s Maduka Okoye has since stepped into the number-one jersey during recent call-ups, while Francis Uzoho has kept his place in the squad. Arthur Okonkwo has also emerged as a fresh option in goal after switching his international allegiance to Nigeria.
Nwabali will now hope that regular club football gives him the platform to reclaim his place between the sticks for the Super Eagles.
